The Cuffie River Nature Retreat and Lodge is located in the heart of Tobago's verdant rainforest.  The Lodge is perfectly suited for nature hiker and bird-watchers-- the Runnemede region is known for the wide breadth of its biodiversity.    

Care was taken in the lodge's construction to complement its natural environment and allow its visitors to feel in touch with their surroundings.    To maintain as natural an ambiance as possible, the building was made of smooth-faced clay blocks and all the floors are made of clay tiles--all manufactured locally.  Local wood was also used in construction.  To take maximum advantage of the natural air currents, all rooms are ventilated with several small windows.  Double French doors opening onto the rooms' private balconies provide additional ventilation, as well as stunning views of the surrounding greenery.  To stay cool, all rooms have high ceilings. 

As far as possible, only natural materials were used in the building's construction.  Further, a conscious effort was made to use only locally available materials, products, furniture, and fixtures.  Nothing was imported.

Immediately after entering the hotel site through an almost hundred year old palm alley, the Blue Haven vacation in paradise begins with a warm welcome and a chilled tropical fruit or rum punch as guests check in.

Relax by the pool or take swim at the hotel's romantic beach, where according to Daniel Defoe's book, Robinson Crusoe was stranded on the 30th of September 1659. The anchor of his ship can still be seen on the hotel site
